Video: The Peach Kings, ‘Thieves and Kings’

2

The Peach Kings shape the kind of music that’ll make you break out in a sweat, and then maybe blow softly on the back of your neck to cool things down again. The Bay Area-bred, L.A.-based duo of Paige Wood and Steven Trezevant join a long list of two-pieces rooting around in the blues, folk and lounge-pop, and the sexy hybrids thereof, but they’re calling what they do “gypsydelic.” Whatever. With two singles and this year’s “Trip Wop” EP to their credit, the Peach Kings seem to be on a three-bourbon roll. There’s enough smoke in Wood’s vocals to suggest real fire; Trezevant’s measured guitar licks beam you back about 50 years; and their backing electronics beats imply that it’s all pretty modern. Paul Trillo’s video for their single “Thieves and Kings” is a nifty riff on another vintage duo. What, Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway weren’t available?
