Video: Dum Dum Girls, ‘Bedroom Eyes’

From the moment Kristin Gundred (aka Dee Dee) and her Dum Dum Girls mates jumped into the girl-group fray, it’s been a battle of style vs. substance, with neat bangs and black mini-dresses usually coming out on top. The quartet’s sophomore album, “Only in Dreams” (out Tuesday on Sub Pop) changes that – it’s sturdy album with plenty of sonic (and conceptual) meat on its bones that balances Gundred’s knack for penning a great single with a quest for something longer-lasting than a 4-minute goodnight kiss. Making fanboys’ eyes glaze over, however, apparently never hurts, as the kaleidoscopic video for “Bedroom Eyes” suggests. It says here, however, that “Only in Dreams” doesn’t need any bright red lipstick to leave a mark.
