After the success of their debut “Gorilla Manor” and massive tours with the Arcade Fire and the National, Silver Lake’s beloved indie rockers Local Natives return with a new song off of their forthcoming record “Hummingbird.” Now a quartet, after parting ways with former bassist Andy Hamm last year, the band forays into a new territory of psychedelic haze on “Breakers,” but their flawless harmonies and penchant for playful percussion still beat as the heart of the track. Recording music outside of L.A. for the first time, Local Natives stopped in Montreal for initial tracking and ended up in Brooklyn to work their their producer, Aaron Dessner of the National. The new album reflects the group’s highs and lows (including a song titled “Columbia” dedicated to Kelcey Ayer’s late mother) throughout their time promoting their debut. “Hummingbird” is slated for a Jan. 29 release via Frenchkiss Records and Infectious Music.
