Local folk-rockers Olin & the Moon are a pretty tight crew – and their sweet Americana has always sounded like it – so there’s a pretty good chance there would never have been a David LaBrel solo project if not for that fateful night over a year ago at Harvard & Stone. That was the night drummer Marshall Vore found himself in the middle of a fracas outside the club; he sustained a badly broken leg that sidelined him for almost a year. During the hiatus, Olin’s honey-voiced frontman LaBrel teamed up with keyboardist John Gilbertson to work on some new music, and that collaboration has yielded a five-song EP that LaBrel will release in June. The first single, the classic-sounding “Young at Heart,” will do nothing to quell those over-a-tallboy conversations that LaBrel, and his band, ought to have been a much bigger deal by now.
