When Dexy Valentine unveiled her side project Bonfire Beach in late 2013, it made for a great early Christmas present. Setting aside the dream-pop she makes in Magic Wands, Bonfire Beach dives headlong into gritty shoegazing, recalling the deliciously foreboding rock of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, the Duke Spirit and the Raveonettes. We share Valentine’s self-made video for the single “Spit U Out” as something of a news bulletin – the release of the full-length, which was to have been last Dec. 17, didn’t quite happen as planned. And now Bonfire Beach has teamed up with Manimal Vinyl. The album has a July 17 release date, it says here, and with Magic Wands finishing up work on their new album “Stranded on Earth” (and playing some of the new songs May 23 at the Troubadour), it should be a very busy summer for Valentine.
