Above: The sweeping, Houmam-directed video for “Under the Pressure,” the second single from the War on Drugs’ acclaimed album “Lost in the Dream.” The Philadelphia sextet plays the Glass House in Pomona on Wednesday and the Fonda Theatre on Thursday and Friday.

Our staff picks of the week:

@KRBronson recommends: You’ll want to set aside some time Saturday for the Eagle Rock Music Festival, back with a strong lineup (Making a donation to the festival is a cool thing too), and Sunday’s free matinee show in Chinatown in conjunction with CicLAvia. In the big theaters, the Bombay Bicycle Club/Milo Greene show on Friday at the Wiltern looks very enticing. In the small rooms, there’s Joel Jerome’s album-release show on Thursday at the Lexington.

@Seraphina_L recommends: And just like that, we slide into Rocktober. With too many shows to really single out and highlight, let’s just say you can’t go wrong with anything all week. Here my top picks: The emotional yet sensational singer-songwriter Sam Smith does two shows at the Greek, one on Monday and the other on Tuesday (New Zealand brother-and-sister duo Broods opens both nights); fellow U.K. act Clean Bandit returns to L.A. and to a bigger venue – they headline the El Rey Theatre on Tuesday with Lizzo as support; the Felice Brothers take on a Wednesday at the Roxy; the War on Drugs and Cass McCombs team up together for both Thursday and Friday the Fonda, Bombay Bicycle Club stops by the Wiltern on Friday (with Milo Greene as support); and Slow Club plays the Echo with Roses as openers. This is just skimming off the top, folks.
