When the Bulls quietly debuted last March at Hemingway’s in Hollywood, it was almost a shock to the senses – seeing Anna Bulbrook without her usual musical appendage, the violin. Then the guitars kicked in and things got interesting, or at least atmospheric. Here, Bulbrook, the multi-instrumentalist and backup vocalist in the Airborne Toxic Event, has joined up with Mark Sallis (the Duke Spirit) to explore some ’90s-style shoegazing, with the former’s plaintive vocals floating on the latter’s lush guitars. It’s dreamy and pretty, maybe not as stratospheric as bands like Pale Saints or Mazzy Star, but in the same skies. The Bulls’ single “Come Unwound” will be out Oct. 14, and an EP is in the works.
