L.A. trio Superhumanoids brought a taste of their forthcoming second album and a cool combination of synths and electronic beats to the Figat7th Downtown Festival on Friday night. Superhumanoids had PAPA’s Darren Weiss sitting in on drums, and with Sarah Chernoff’s vocals floating high above the mix and Cameron Parkins and Max St. John laying out a sheen of sound that reverberated throughout the plaza, the 50-minute set made the title of that new record — “Do You Feel OK? (out Sept. 11) — a rhetorical question. The trio’s Innovative Leisure labelmates Tropics opened the show, a trio of Englishmen fronted by Peter Ward. Playing in support of their new album “Rapture,” it was their first L.A. show, a set of ambient, chill electronica played as the sun set over downtown. It was the second of eight weeks of free Friday shows at Figat7th, and the series continues next week with “Soulection: The Sound of Tomorrow,” featuring Joe Kay, Andre Power, Sosupersam, Esta, SPZRKT and Chris McClenney.
