HEALTH roared through three sold-out nights at Echo last week in advance of the Aug. 7 release of their third album (not counting 2012’s soundtrack to the game “Max Payne 3”), “Death Magic.” With synths, beats and guitars blaring, the quartet — backed by harsh strobe lights — kicked off the proceedings on Wednesday with “Crimewave” (from 2007’s debut) and bashed out “Die Slow” (from 2009’s “Get Color”) before bringing on the new stuff, performing “New Coke,” “Salvia” and “Men Today” off the forthcoming release. Adding in new tracks “Stonefist,” “Life,” “Court Ship II” and “Dark Enough” later, they played more than half of “Death Magic” and mixed in a cover of Pictureplane’s “Goth Star” for good measure. It’s HEALTH’s last scheduled Los Angeles show until FYF Fest, and a noisy time was had by all.
