The new L.A. duo NKOSI are the latest production aces to put new meat on the bones of ’80s pop. Their debut single “White Gold” sounds like Sting doing modern synth-pop, with its sleek production, the whoosh of chill effects and big, buoyant melody. The song is the work of East Coast natives Dave Sherman — a multi-instrumentalist who was part of the L.A.-via-Boston hip-hop collective Audible Mainframe — and singer-songwriter Echoboyy. They have an album in the works, with “White Gold” and its various remixes paving the way. Warren Morris directs the visuals for the song; it’s easy to imagine his images morphing on a huge screen behind the duo in clubs or at festivals. Like the song, it’s all about atmosphere.
