Gun Outfit

Gun Outfit was so drawn to the haunted Los Angeles of Kenneth Anger and David Lynch, the place that gave rise to cult figures like Father Yod and Charlie Manson, that the band moved down here from Olympia, Wash., to let the city’s angels and demons infiltrate their own creative output. Strange visions and waking-dream realities inspire Gun Outfit’s rockin’ fourth full-length album, “Dream All Over,” which Paradise of Bachelors is releasing Oct. 16. As for their cool, dark folk-rock sound, Gun Outfit’s rhythm section is helmed by Daniel Swire and Adam Payne (also of Residual Echoes), Dylan Sharp playing guitar, banjo and balalaika, while sharing singing duties with fellow guitarist Carrie Keith. Special guest Henry Barnes (Amps for Christ/Man Is the Bastard) plays three different homemade electric sitars on the new record, and Facundo Bermudez (Ty Segall, No Age, King Tuff) engineered and co-produced it with the band. The song “Legends of My Own” and its video, shot on Super 8 and directed by Keith, sums up the band’s fascination with the mysterious layer that shrouds everyday moments. Take these lyrics, “I looked familiar in a foreign land / I couldn’t speak, but I could understand / From another life I rode / Into a desert of my own / And when I put my blanket down / I’m going to dream all over.” Safe to say they fit right into this strange, magical place.
