As attractive a destination as Pasadena is for diners and shoppers, the Rose City isn’t exactly a mecca for live music.

That gets a shot in the arm in February when a new dinner theater, The Rose, opens. It’s the latest venture from Lance Sterling, the entrepreneur behind the Canyon Club in Agoura Hills and the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills.

The entrance to the 1,300-capacity, 39,000-square-foot venue is located at 245 E. Green St., on the backside of Paseo Colorado shopping center. The space was formerly a Gelson’s supermarket. In a report last month in the Pasadena Star-News, Sterling said The Rose would have two bars, a VIP area, two video screens and a flexible layout that allows for both seated and standing shows.

The Rose’s calendar is booked into May with the same kind of mostly legacy acts that play the Canyon and the Saban. Judy Collins is scheduled to open the room with a Valentine’s Day concert, with Buckcherry and Rickie Lee Jones playing the first week. Three Dog Night, John Hiatt, the Tubes and Puddle of Mudd are also slated to play.
