Since they embarked on their voyage as Dear Boy in 2013, the quartet of singer-guitarist Ben Grey, guitarist Austin Hayman, bassist Nils Bue and drummer Keith Cooper has matriculated toward a sound derived from the post-punk and dark-wave romantics of the 1980s. They sound as exquisitely affected as any British band you loved back in the day on their new single “Local Roses,” their first new music since the sweeping single “Hesitation Waltz” over a year ago. Singing about second chances and goodbyes, Grey wistfully laments a love that was never meant to bloom as the band lays on the atmospherics. Tasty.
