Los Angeles-based electro-chanteuse/songwriter Nite Jewel and Bay Area beatmaker/rapper Droop-E have collaborated before, on the track “N the Traffic” from his 2013 EP “Hungry and Humble,” but now the two have joined forces for a project called AMTHST. Their debut EP, the five-track effort “Euphoria,” is due out on Feb. 17 via Sick Wid It Records, the label owned by Droop-E’s father, legendary rapper E-40. The EP was produced by the duo, as well as Toronto’s BatmanOnTheBeatz, who had previously crafted two one-off Nite Jewel singles last year, “Infinity” and “Words.” The first song to see the light is “Thug Passion,” a smooth and woozy number layered with digital flourishes, near-buried horns, a subtle bassline and synthesized melodies that gives her sultry voice room to softly hover with lines like, “You don’t like the way I up and leave / When my bed is made for me.” Check it out below.
