The second night of the GIRLSCHOOL Field Day Weekend on Saturday at the Bootleg Theater lacked nothing in artistic range. There was the sublime quietude of sets from Maria Taylor and Lael Neale. There were the vocal pyrotechnics of White Sea and the dreamy textures of Nightjacket. There was the engaging, stripped-down set from Nina Gordon and Louise Post of Veruca Salt, the pair playing old songs and new in between bouts of humorous storytelling. Notwithstanding the costume-punk histrionics of headliner Kim & the Created, the show-stealer might have been Conway, whose aerobic, in-your-face 35 minutes of pop-punk had so many memorable hooks. You can compare the vertical leaps of the latter two frontwomen in the photo gallery above.

GIRLSCHOOL, a benefit for Rock ’n’ Camp for Girls Los Angeles, winds up its three-day weekend tonight [set times here] with performances by Riothorse Royale, Gothic Tropic, Kera & the Lesbians and more.
