Not that Run River North were playing to a totally adoring audience or anything, but at one point during their show Monday night at the Teragram Ballroom, singer-guitarist Alex Hwang joked, “I could say ‘chicken nugget,’ and you all would cheer.”

To which the crowd responded: “Woooo!”

The occasion was the album-release show for the Los Angeles sextet’s sophomore full-length, “Drinking From a Salt Pond.” In all, the show went down like a swig of fresh water.

The folk-rockers’ single “Run or Hide” got a huge reaction, as Hwang acknowledged that at first, “We weren’t sure of this as a single.” He added: “It’s cool that Freddy Prinze Jr. retweeted this song … [But] I bet most of you don’t even know who that is.”

If the crowd didn’t remember what they did last summer, they knew their Run River North favorites, including new songs “Ghost,” “Superstition” and “29,” as well as tunes from the band’s 2013 debut like “Beetle.” “Remember that scene in ‘Ace Ventura’ with the rhino?” guitarist Daniel Chae said in introducing the song. “This is our version of that.”
