Minnow

L.A. art-rockers Minnow emerged in 2012 and hit their stride in 2014 with the album “Trembles & Temperance,” displaying an old-school-indie, slightly math-y approach in their swirls of shifting dynamics and melodrama. The sextet — Madison Megna, Kenny Tye, Alex Onate, Nik O’Hara, Daniel Campos and Curtis Baxter — return with “Vacation Forever,” to be released March 25 as part of a digital split single with the song “Feud” by Oakland’s Unconditional Arms. (Not limited to music, the Anchor Eight Four Records release includes a Scout notebook and pen, and a 12-ounce bag of Stumptown Coffee, so it’s kind of a reporter’s dream, we suppose.) Guitarists Megna and Tye provide Minnow’s typical atmospherics on “Vacation Forever,” while Onate’s furious rhythms make sure nobody gets too comfortable as the song builds to a crushing climax. This is one you can sink your teeth into.
