Sonny And The Sunsets

Sonny & the Sunsets has a knack for transforming real issues into cartoonish stories, turning our darkest impulses, fears, and problems into pretty, strange, and comical stories that manage to shed light on reality while distorting it in just the right ways. “Well But Strangely Hung Man,” a song about a man with “chaos in his pants” terrorizing the streets, does just that. It’s an instantly appealing song, opening with an ’80s funk bass line and girls chanting the chorus, “well but strange man.” The song appears on the band’s sixth album, “Moods Baby Moods,” arriving May 27 through Polyvinyl. Produced by Merrill Garbus of tUnE-yArDs, here we find Sonny & the Sunsets taking a dip into new wave and funk of the early ’80s, all in service of Sonny Smith’s fun depictions of our cruel world.
