Around 200 artists from Los Angeles will be doing official showcases next week in Austin at the South by Southwest Music Festival. And there are probably that many artists, or more, heading to Texas to do unofficial gigs, or play in ancillary events such as label showcases (the Burger parties are always a highlight), corporate events or festivals that piggyback on SXSW like the Red Gorilla and Heart of Texas.
It’s mind-boggling, really. Sometimes we’re surprised there is anybody left in L.A. to play local clubs during the week of SXSW.
Buzz Bands LA will be there to cover a lot of bands that aren’t from L.A. (because we can see local bands at home, right?) — except for Wednesday afternoon when we host our annual “Dear Austin, Love L.A.” day party at The Main II. That features The Moth & the Flame, James Supercave, Miya Folick, FEELS, Brian Whelan, The Soft White Sixties, Kid Bloom and Paul Bergmann — all “Artists to Watch,” of course.
You may sample their wares here:
And above, we’ve compiled an 80-song Spotify playlist of L.A. people who will be in Austin. Below are videos from 15 artists who should be on your hot list.
