“I’m so empty,” Shirley Manson sings on the new Garbage single, but the quartet, now in their third decade, obviously isn’t. Something about the cascading wall of sound in the veteran rockers’ new song makes us want to turn it to 11. “Empty” is the first taste of Garbage’s sixth album, “Strange Little Birds,” which is due June 10, or about eight months after the band released the 20th-anniversary edition of their debut. It’s not likely that Manson, Duke Erikson, Steve Marker and Butch Vig are going to change things up much, but if this infiltrates rock radio and provides a four-minute respite from candy-coated synths, they get a tip of the cap.
