In spite of what their sleepy, sloppy name suggests, MoondreamzzZ are noisy beasts. The L.A. trio makes unfussy punk rock about complicated people — “orchestrated noise as a form of therapy,” says singer-guitarist Jeremiah Meltzer, who started the band in San Francisco in 2014 and is joined by singer-bassist Cary Workman and drummer George Atom. The trio made its self-titled demo EP with engineer David Newton (Mighty Lemon Drops) at Rollercoaster Recording in one marathon day, and then convened with producer Phil Galloni at Votiv Studios to polish off this version of the nervous rocker “Porcelain Skin.”

The video for “Porcelain Skin,” directed by David Adesman and Anthony Sabatino, is just as unnerving. It stars Miles Dougal as man who stalks a young woman, portrayed by Annie Motel, as she leaves a train station. The surprise comes when he finally catches his prey. There’s a metaphor about people shedding their layers here. It may or may not get under your skin.
