Building that houses the Smell set for demolition

The Smell, the DIY all-ages venue in downtown L.A. that in January celebrated in 18th anniversary, is not long for this world.
A notice posted on its door, at 247 S. Main St., said the building (and adjacent properties) are slated for demolition. The Smell’s founder Jim Smith posted a photo of it to social media today. Smith explained via social media that the buildings were sold to a new owner last year and he was unsuccessful in trying to negotiate a new lease. Not much information was available because it’s a holiday weekend.
But LAist has a good report here. The new owners apparently own and operate parking facilities.
It’s always a bummer to hear of a favorite old building being torn down but hopefully, there are great things coming in the future.
