U.K. folk-pop singer-songwriter Birdy put on an immaculate performance Friday night at the sold-out Fonda Theatre.

Although relatively unfamiliar to audiences in the states, Birdy — aka Jasmine Lucilla Elizabeth Jennifer van den Bogaerde — is quite well-known to audiences in Europe. She rose to fame after her cover of Bon Iver’s “Skinny Love” went viral. Her first album was chock-full of covers from indie acts such as the Nationals, Fleet Foxes and Cherry Ghost. Now with the release of her third album “Beautiful Lies,” Birdy seems to have settled into creating her own original music and avoided the pitfalls that have befallen other emerging cover artists.

She performed most of the songs off her new album, including the upbeat “Wild Horses” and “Words,” with its cathartic lyrics and melancholy chords. The audience put their hands in the air and clapped to the soaring chorus of “Wings.” For the most part, Birdy played keyboard while singing, but she did strap on the guitar for the folksy “Words As Weapons” and finger-picked her way through “Winter.” She closed out the show with Bon Iver’s “Skinny Love” and let her high notes loose dazzling the audience.

U.K. singer-songwriter Lawrence Taylor warmed up the crowd with just his guitar in hand. Taylor breezed through his performance despite a broken string, his set including the groovy “Bang Bang.”
