Michael Goldman debuted his solo venture NONA back in 2013 when Chasing Kings, for whom he played bass, went on hiatus after the band’s frontman Matthew Schwartz joined Cold War Kids. Goldman’s own explorations have taken a back seat to his duties playing in such bands as Goldroom, the Moth & the Flame and Meg Myers, but now he’s rolling out plans to release an EP that marks a progression from his early acoustic songs. The bright guitar work in the first single “Otherways” finds a happy place somewhere between the Strokes and Wilco as Goldman waxes wearily on the wars of finding romance. The song, he says, “defines a time in my life when I prioritized romance but struggled at succeeding in it.” Maybe that “other way” is to not try so hard, then?

Release date for the EP, which was recorded at Goldman’s home studio in Highland Park with the singer-songwriter playing everything except drums (Sam Gallagher did the work there), is to be announced.
