The seventh of the this summer’s 10 Twilight Concerts at the Santa Monica Pier reached a high note on Thursday night — courtesy of the legendary Mavis Staples. The 77-year-old singer and her stellar band staked their claim to the the beachfront property by performing songs off Staples’ new, M. Ward-produced album “Livin’ on a High Note,” along with tunes from her memorable catalog. Texas 10-piece the Suffers kicked off the night, making a soulful one from front to back.
Twilight Concerts continue their run of free Thursday shows next week with Save Ferris, Cibo Matto and Jake Davis.
