Who better to articulate suburban teenage angst than actual teenagers? Cherub rockers Love Ghost have been making noise with their grunge-indebted music for a few months now, raging hard and sounding well beyond on their years on their first three singles. The band is fronted by singer-guitarist-keyboardist Finn Bell, who is joined by drummer-singer Ale Sierra, bassist Ryan Stevens and violist Mya Greene (who shines on their first single, the Smashing Pumpkins-esque “Friday Afternoon”).

Love Ghost’s third single “Mystery Box,” produced by Mark Renk (P.O.D.), is cut from the same ragged cloth as a lot of ’90s giants — after a tender start, the pyrotechnics in the quartet’s loud/soft dynamic kick in a the 1:52 mark. Shredding, of both the guitar and emotional varieties, ensues. “‘Mystery Box’ refers to a box inside me,” Bell says of the song. “Inside the box are a lot of feelings and memories, things I don’t like, things I do like. I have a theory that everyone has a box like this inside of them, but many people can’t open it.” Love Ghost has summoned the ghosts of the ’90s, and in today’s climate it sounds pretty friendly, not to mention alternative.
