We the Dreamers

“Parasol,” the second single from We the Dreamers, is like light rain, dampening the streets in ambient melancholy until the sun breaks through the clouds. It’s the work of singer-songwriter (and photographer/painter/actor) Myke Wilken, a Chico native most recently spotted playing guitar and cello for the L.A. folk-pop outfit Valley Shine. Wilken has been working on an EP with producer Warren Huart, whom he met via the Los Angeles Songwriters Collective, and “Parasol” was written for his girlfriend at the time, who, he says, “who wasn’t so keen on the topic of choice.” He adds: “The encompassing message is to worry less and let the sun shine in.” And not to rain on anybody’s parade, Wilken himself painted the cover artwork — on a canvas atop a landscape his ex-girlfriend had painted.
