There was so much talent at Hunny’s Winter Talent Show on Thursday night at the Echoplex that there wasn’t enough time for it all. The jam-packed event saw the headliners closing out their big year by playing all the songs off their “Pain / Ache / Loving” EP, their new singles (including “Vowels” to end their show) and two new songs. As was the case all night, the crowd, many with glittered sprinkled on their faces, clamored for more.

Early bands Shaking Hands, Uncles, Casinos and Kid Bloom each played lightning-quick 20-minute sets, followed by a half-hour each with Private Island, Wax Idols and Melissa Brooks & the Aquadolls. Casinos earned an enthusiastic response, since, having toured with Hunny, many fans were familiar with their songs. When Kid Bloom sang their songs “Electric U” and “Different State of Mind” (from the EP they released Friday), the girls in the crowd screamed like the Beatles were on stage. Later, Melissa Brooks & the Aquadolls got a mosh pit going, and Hunny frontman Jason Yarger then arrived with a whiff of the holidays, lighting some incense.

The mosh pit and crowd-surfing ramped up during Hunny’s set, which was watch from sidestage by a host of players from the earlier bands.
