More than a decade after his first ill-fated deal with a record label, songwriter Ross Golan has another one — this one for his passion project. “The Wrong Man,” the one-man musical he developed over the course of 10-plus years (and one that won three Ovation Awards after its 2014 run at Los Feliz’s Skylight Theater), will be recorded as an album for Interscope.

The 36-year-old Chicago native and USC grad fronted the bands Ross Golan & Molehead, which released an album in 2004, and Glacier Hiking, which released an EP in 2009. Neither gained much traction, but since then Golan has become an in-demand songwriter with credits on a host of A-listers’ albums and singles. In 2016 alone, he has credits on Ariana Grande’s Grammy-nominated “Dangerous Woman” and Flo Rida’s “My House,” along with collaborations on songs by Meghan Trainor, Michael Bublé, Idina Menzel and Max Frost. He also co-wrote the Andy Grammer charity single “Fresh Eyes,” the proceeds from which benefit L.A.’s Union Rescue Mission.

Over 14 songs, “The Wrong Man” tells the story of a man wrongly convicted for murder in Reno, Nev. The theatrical version simply featured Golan on acoustic guitar and vocals (with a dancer portraying the protagonist’s love interest) and was notable not just for its musicality but its remarkable lyrical hooks.

No details yet on the timing of the recording or the release.
