Nadia Giosia (known in the kitchen as Nadia G) describes the front cover of The Menstruators’ “Dead Glitter” EP as “mildly traumatizing.” The illustration depicts a sharp-toothed, tentacled vagina monster in a cave, sliding towards its bound and gagged victim. Maybe that’s a little scary, depending on your sense of humor. The host of a subversive comedy-cooking show called “Bitchin’ Kitchen,” Nadia G felt the itch to channel her unbridled creativity into music and started the Menstruators in 2014. She says, “I can’t tell you how many times people have told me to stick to cooking, but the music has always burned inside me like a gaddam UTI. I finally just went for it.” Joined by drummer Ale Robles, guitarist Rex-L, and bassist Jennie Vee, the 4-piece deliver a lively performance propelled by confrontational lyrics. Firecracker G also puts together the yearly Riot Grill music festival, gathering her favorite fiery female-fronted bands in one place. “The stage is church for me,” she says. “It’s the only time I’m ever truly in the moment. I’m not thinking about my bills or your ugly kids on Facebook. I’m just … being. And this is why I started this band, because I found peace yelling into a mic in zip-crotch leather pants.” “Dead Glitter” came out today, Friday the 13th.
