Loud and proud, voices were raised and music was played on Saturday night at Don’t Sit Down: A Benefit Standing With Planned Parenthood, which brought a cross-generational group of standout bands to the El Rey Theatre.

On one hand there were special guest Liz Phair, 49, and Nina Gordon & Louise Post of Veruca Salt, 49 and 50, respectively. On the other, there were teenage rockers the Regrettes. Somewhere in between was Bethany Cosentino of Best Coast, who not only got to introduce one of her ’90s faves (Veruca Salt) but got to sing with another (Phair). Phair joined the L.A. rockers for a rendition of her 24-year-old song “Fuck and Run” and their tune “When I’m With You.”

Best Coast closed out the night with a strong set, but most electric turn belonged to Grouplove, who were positively ferocious. For that matter, there was no shortage of high-energy sets throughout the night, as MUNA, the Lovely Bad Things and the Side Eyes also came through for the cause. The tickets sales, along with a silent auction, made it a bountiful night for the nonprofit.
