Above: After three years without playing live and 4 1/2 years since they released their last album, Canadian rock duo Japandroids returned in January with their third full-length, “Near to the Wild Heart of Life” to much deserved acclaim. They have two L.A. dates this week at the Fonda Theatre — Thursday (tickets) and Friday (sold out), with Craig Finn and the Uptown Controllers supporting. (There’s a March 13 date at the Observatory too.) Fun fact: The album title is comes from a passage in James Joyce’s novel “A Portrait of the Artist As a Young Man.”
