“The Eternal Getdown,” the latest album from long-running East L.A. luminaries Quetzal, is a call to action in two languages and the myriad musical styles that comprise the very fabric of Los Angeles. The band, Grammy winners for their 2012 album “Imaginaries,” have long been tireless advocates for community involvement and social change, their new 77-minute opus champions that spirit in a panoply of styles including Chicano rock, Mexican son jarocho, Cuban batá, funk, Japanese taiko and R&B. “Yes, our music is the sound of resistance to the anger, frustration, disillusionment and hopelessness that can shut down the human spirit,” singer Martha González says. “But it also explores ways to create realities that help us not only survive, but thrive in the face of adversity.” Guests on the band’s seventh album include Aloe Blacc (on the 6-minute suite “Get to Knowing), along with Ramón Gutiérrez, Rocío Marrón, César Castro, and Joey De Léon. All are expected to join Quetzal on Saturday night at a special performance celebrating the album.
