The fossils and the dioramas were stationary, but everything else, including the crowd, was in motion when Sunflower Bean played their headlining set at First Fridays at the Natural History Museum. The young New York psych-rockers — singer-bassist Julia Cumming, singer-guitarist Nick Kivlen and drummer Jacob Faber — performed the heady music from last year’s debut, “Human Ceremony,” along with some new material Cumming told the crowd was in the works. At her urging, fans chanted along to the opening lyrics of “2013,” proceeding to move and mosh just enough not to rattle any cages in the North American Mammal Hall. Sunflower Bean are playing again this weekend at Sunday’s second day of the When We Were Young festival at the Observatory.

Brother duo Tonstartssbandht preceded Sunflower Bean with an energetic set of tunes from their long catalog, including their new album “Sorcerer.”
