Lucy LaForge’s weapon of choice is a ukulele, and her angelic demeanor and plaintive singing voice belie the strong messages in her music as Lucy & La Mer. The folk-pop activist has collaborated with women’s right’s organizations such as More Than No and the Cabaret Con-Sensual; she addressed the Southern California drought as part of the Save the Drop LA campaign; and she recently cut some of her luxuriant hair at a benefit for the Locks of Love Foundation. Her new single “Honey, Put Your Weapons Down,” produced by Jared Lee Gosselin (who has worked with Macy Gray, Corinne Bailey Rae and India.Arie, among others) takes a more personal tack — it’s about emotional self-preservation in the face of a relationship going toxic. “It’s not that you’re not worth fighting for,” she sings, “I just don’t think love should feel like war.”
