Ariel Pink

With his first solo release since 2014’s “Pom Pom,” Ariel Pink returns to where it all began, his bedroom, creating a song about partying a little too hard and the mixed feeling of euphoria and guilt that lingers during the aftermath of such events. From the lyrics, we gather he’s done something wrong and is the only one to blame for the consequences. While the experience he relates might be hazy, the song itself has a serene mood, like it’s taking place in a bathtub, complete with one particular effect reminiscent of a rubber ducky. Beginning with acoustic guitar and gentle accompaniment, the song traverses time signatures and the intrusion of strange voices, but the mood remains constant, as if the weirder moments have become so familiar, they’re not jarring. The 7-inch single, whose B-side is “Ode To The Goat (Thank You),” comes out Aug. 18 via Mexican Summer.
