Oh, the gullible heart of a teenager. Director Rocco Rivetti’s tongue-in-cheek video for Wavves‘ “Stupid In Love” showcases just how easy it is to dupe a person looking for love on the internet. The poor kid thinks he found a girl online with pretty pink hair that’s into video games but really it’s some guy in Eastern Europe trying to steal his credit card. The song itself is a noisy slice of pop with muffled vocals, a bouncy drum beat and a guitar buried deep in the mix under heaps of fuzz like a body trying to crawl its way out of a bottomless ball pit. The chorus is catchy, “so stupid in love, la la la la …” and the song is actually about about a female junkie who lived near singer Nathan Williams back in San Diego. Interesting. Wavves’ sixth album, “You’re Welcome,” was released on May 19 via the band’s own Ghost Ramp label.
