L.A. trio the Record Company have given more than 250 concerts since the February 2016 release of their debut album, “Give It Back to You.” But only three of them have been on their home turf — the album-release show at the Echoplex, a date last fall at the El Rey Theatre and, then, Saturday night.
So when they hit the Fonda Theatre, there were dual good vibes — it was happy homecoming and they were playing the Fonda. “It’s been our dream for a long time to play here,” singer-guitarist Chris Vos said during what was final date on a 26-show spring tour.
Vos and mates Alex Stiff and Marc Cazorla gave a typically vein-popping display of blues rock, playing songs from “Give It Back,” which earned a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Blues album, mixing in some extended jams and sprinkling in a couple of covers — Bob Dylan’s “Subterranean Homesick Blues” and, from their 2012 covers EP, the Beastie Boys “So What Cha Want.”
The only hitch came early when something on Cazorla drum kit busted during (ironically) their latest single “Baby I’m Broken.”
Longtime fans smiled and sang along to early singles “Don’t Let Me Get Lonely” and “4 Days 3 Nights,” and Vos jammed and jumped and dripped sweat through “Feel So Good.” The trio encored with “In the Mood,” and it was clear, even after 90 minutes, that everybody still was.
Bluegrass quintet the Brothers Comatose opened the night.
