We last heard from singer-songwriter-producer Erica Von Trapp in the fall, when Grand Bain, her project with Frenchman Jules de Gasperis, played some L.A. shows in support of their debut EP. This month, Von Trapp has unveiled her solo project, Jane Machine. The songs on the Jane Machine debut album “Back Seat Driver” took shape in France, where Von Trapp had retreated a couple of years ago after some personal travails. (It was in Paris she met de Gasperis, so there’s that.) The album falls into the realm of bummer-pop with a Euro feel, with the lead single “I Hope We Win” nodding along on rubbery synths, searching for a final destination amid the confusion of having lost her way. “Back Seat Driver,” which was mixed by de Gasperis,” is coming later this year.
