A new mid-sized music venue — this one on some prime real estate — officially debuts tonight in Orange County with a concert by Sir Mix-A-Lot.

SeaLegs Live at the Beach, a new 1,200-capacity space on the sand in Huntington Beach, comes complete with fire pits and cabanas. It’s the brainchild of restaurateur Alicia Whitney and festival producer John Reese, a duo seeking to recreate the vibe of the Golden Bear, which closed in 1986. They told the Orange County Register that they plan about 60 shows between the opening and the end of the season in November.

Located at 17851 Pacific Coast Highway on Bolsa Chica State Beach, SeaLegs Live gets its sea legs beginning tonight, with Sir Mix-A-Lot opining on the finer assets of the gluteus maximus, followed by shows from San Diego punkers Unwritten Law, Anthony Green, and P.O.D. in the weeks to come.
