Surf Curse, the Buttertones, Dungen and CRX (featuring Nick Valensi from The Strokes) are among the scores of bands performing at this year’s Echo Park Rising, the neighborhood free-for-all going off Aug. 17-20.

The first phase of the lineup for the seventh annual event was announced today. More acts will be announced in the upcoming days. How many bands will be playing Echo Park Rising? So many that the organizers have “flyer fatigue” (see below).

Other notables include Moon Honey, Lauren Ruth Ward, Alice Bag, Meatbodies, Freedom Fry, Plague Vendor, Boogaloo Assassins, Ethio Cali Ensemble and Ex Stains (featuring Allison Wolfe of Bratmobile). A more extensive list is below.

The Echo and Echoplex will kick off Echo Park Rising on Thursday with the Super Tight Variety Show, Swedish rock band Dungen and DJ Jonathan Toubin’s Soul Clap & Dance Off. There also will be stages curated by Buzz Bands LA, New Professor Records, SESAC, Blank City Records and Play Like a Girl, among others. A new venue, the Lost Lot stage, will be mounted in the parking lot across from the Lost Knight.

On Friday and Saturday, bands will hit the Liberty Stage (the main outdoor stage erected at the corner of Liberty and Reservoir), with its adjacent craft beer garden, vendors and food trucks.

Two-day VIP tickets (available here), which include shade seating, beer and mezcal tastings, go on sale Friday.
