Superet in June at the Troubadour

“Who Is this Guy” is the second single from L.A. quintet Superet, and it is unrelenting. And by that, we mean agitated, caffeinated and begging not the titular question but the question “What is this guy on?” A throwback to the art-punk of the ’80s, the song was mixed by Dave Fridmann (Mercury Rev, the Flaming Lips, Spoon, Tame Impala), probably no easy task here considering its colliding synths and kitchen-sink percussion and effects. Whatever, it does get the pulse pounding. The band — singer-guitarist Matt Blitzer, keyboardist Alex Fischel, bassist Patrick Kelly, multi-instrumentalist Isaac Tamburino and drummer Sam KS — has been touring in support of the supergroup Dreamcar while playing coy about future release plans. Their live show quite possibly will leave you asking, “Who are these guys?”
