In February, singer-guitarist Meg Duffy released “Wildly Idle (Humble Before the Void),” her debut album as Hand Habits, showcasing music with deft lyricism and warm intimacy. The new single “Yr Heart,” written during the same time the New York-reared, L.A.-based artist worked on the album and produced by M. Geddes Gengras, is a big song — about “the way we all manipulate fate in the tiniest of ways,” she says — wrapped in a small song. The inspiration, she told She Shreds, where the song premiered, came from something equally small: “little bird would come and fly up to the [window] sill and sit and watch me in the mornings.” “Yr Heart” will be released as a 7-inch by Saddle Creek as part of the Document Series, which sees the label releasing singles, along with local scene ‘zines, from artists not on their roster.
