“Take my dreams and make ’em better,” Geneva White pleads on her debut single “Dreamcatcher,” as beats and synths pulse and flutter like REM (rapid eye movement, not the band). It’s a soulful new turn for Brittany Mullen, who adopts the Geneva White moniker after previously releasing music under the name KP. For a time beginning in 2014, she toured as lead vocalist for Kan Wakan before departing to concentrate on her own music and do session work. She moved from L.A. to London, immersing herself in jazz, and 2017 has found her singing backup for Lorde at Coachella and taking a turn as the featured vocalist on U.K. house music guru Low Steppa’s single “Can’t Lie.” The new Geneva White single, produced by Alex & Alex and the first from her debut EP coming Oct. 13, is about what it would be like to ask a “dreamcatcher to sift through my thoughts,” she told Milk, where the song premiered. “Ultimately, the song is about being able to create your own world for a short period. Being able to control your own theater through your dreams.”
