Rising indie-rockers La Bouquet — whose cathartic, danceable music belies their cheeky moniker as the “dads of sad” — will headline the 15th annual Tarfest 2017, the free, all-ages music and arts festival going off Sept. 16 at the La Brea Tar Pits Park.

Joining them on the live music stage will be psychedelic explorers Brainstory, avant-pop siren Alina Bea, funk-soul band the Sovereign Artist and teenage rockers Love Ghost.

Between and after live performances, there will be DJ sets from the band HUNNY and the crew from the popular club night Super Soul Sundays at the Short Stop.

Staged by the nonprofit arts organization LAUNCH LA, the event runs from 2 to 10 p.m.

In keep with their mantra “excavating future culture on the Miracle Mile,” Tarfest also features performances by the troupe Move The World Dance Activism; live painting by L.A. artists Johnny “KMNDZ” Rodriguez, Ekundayo and Melany Dierks; kids’ art-making and cultural activities; various workshops; and a beer garden and food trucks.

More info on the event’s Facebook page here. The live music stage is curated by Buzz Bands LA.
