The third in the the Broad’s Summer Happenings series was curated to align conceptually with the museum’s current exhibition, “Oracle” and its themes of “globalization, surveillance and the underlying systems and forces at work in the world.” New York’s noise-rockers A Place to Bury Strangers provided apt musical accompaniment with an abrasive set that ended with Oliver Ackermann shredding (not shredding on) his guitar. As advertised, it was a “soundtrack for the apocalypse.” Long-running experimental art-pop group Xiu Xiu added to the dialogue as well with a riveting opening set.
