In March, Rebeca Arango, dba Oddnesse, released the last of her debut song cycle — four tracks made with Los Angeles producer Grey Goon and all varying degrees of seductive. Turns out we ain’t heard nothin’ yet. Her new single “Are You Down” puts the dream in dream-pop, swirling languidly in the breeze as it’s tickled by wisps of synth. “I call this my ‘Pina Colada’ song (in reference to the Rupert Holmes ditty),” Arango says. “The question of going ‘slow’ isn’t about romantic pacing per se (though that is important), it’s more about generally moving slow, never rushing to pack in too much all at once or getting anxious about ‘missing out,’ and preferring to sink in and explore the depths of all things.” We’ve been counseled to take it easy before, but perhaps never quite like this.
