Not that we believe in omens, but just before Future Islands took the stage at the Greek Theatre on Tuesday night, a praying mantis alighted on one of the monitors. As the breeze carried the haze from the fog machines past him, the insect swayed back and forth, moving his legs. He looked like he was ready for a good time.

Then Sam Herring and gang rushed onstage, and that good time was guaranteed. Herring commented that, five albums and a decade into their career, this was the biggest tour the band had ever been on. Then, with Herring saying, “All right, let’s do this,” they launched into “Beauty of the Road” off their new album “The Far Field.”

With Future Islands’ setlist mixing (mostly) tracks from their past three albums, Herring engaged in his typical wild antics and sensual moves, with the intensity of someone who treats dancing as a moral imperative. “Walking Through the Door,” from 2010’s “The Evening Air,” and “Doves,” from 2014’s “Singles,” each got a huge response from the crowd, and Future Islands saved their biggest hit, “Seasons (Waiting on You)” for late in their 20-song main set. They piled on with a five-song encore that included “Light House” and “Fall From Grace” and ended with the 2010 EP ballad “Little Dreamer.”
