The latest song from Winter may sound plucked right out of the 1990s grunge pop scene, but it forsakes the disillusionment typically associated with the slacker era—a symptom that never seems to go out of style—and instead the message here is to put on a happy face and keep rocking out, even when the room is empty and you’re the only one left on stage. Recorded and produced by Lewis Pesacov, “Jaded” was written following a show at DIY space Non Plus Ultra, where singer Samira Winter was struck by the disgruntled attitude many of her peers had towards the music world, and she realized it was seeping into her as well. The video zeroes in on Winter’s sweet demeanor with a smile that could melt the iciest of hearts. Currently, she’s performing backed by sisters Justine and Chelsea Brown and Anders LaSource of Summer Twins.
