Pearl Charles

After her eclectic self-titled debut EP suggested many possible sound directions, the title track from Pearl Charles’ forthcoming full-length finds the singer-songwriter immersed in smooth soft rock and country-glossed dream-pop, while backed by stellar musicians mostly culled from Father John Misty’s band. The album was engineered and produced by Kenny Woods (formerly of Beck), with whom she bonded after working together on some covers for Aquarium Drunkard’s Lagniappe Sessions series during the summer of 2016.

“Sleepless Dreamer” is a bright and catchy tribute to life in Los Angeles, both its romantic qualities and the shroud of illusion that surrounds the pursuit of being an artist in this crazy city, while also looking for love in mostly the wrong (but fun) places. It captures the push and pull between being disillusioned and invigorated by her surroundings and sets the tone for the rest of the album, which arrives in February via Kanine Records.
